Lads-in-StockingsToday was the final rehearsal for our July shows… and what a hoot!

We polished up the Christmas Crackers episode, which had us all sniggering hopelessly.

You’ve got to come to this one, Christmas Crackers has not been heard by anyone since it was first broadcast on Christmas Day in 1953.

This story is the is the first broadcast of the heroic expedition to bring back the International Christmas Pudding… and it’s the first appearance of the dreaded Red Bladder!

We’ll see you there…

Larry Stephens portraitJulie Warren, a great friend of the Goon Show Preservation Society, has signed with the crowdfunding publisher, Unbound, for her biography of Goon Show writer, Larry Stephens.

Larry was instrumental in the creation and success of the Goon Show but his early death at the age of 35 meant he ended up being a footnote in books about the gregarious characters who surrounded him.

To find out more and to pledge your support for Julie’s book, ‘Glarnies, Green Berets & Goons’, go to the publisher’s website.

You’ll find a wonderful video by clicking the picture at the top of the page, as well as a synopsis and an extract.

And don’t forget to spread the word, folks!

Glarnies, Green Berets & Goons: The Life and Legacy of Larry Stephens

The boys of The Goon Show LIVE!, in stockingsLast night we played to a full house at the Metropole Hotel in Katoomba. What a hoot it was too!

It’s always gratifying to have such warm responses from our The Goon Show LIVE! audiences; one gentleman after the show told us he was able to close his eyes and be transported in back in time to when we was listening to the Goons as a boy, instead of doing his homework.

What a naughty boy – althjough, we’d probably have done the same thing!

Tickets for our Yulefest Blue Mountains show are selling well, so grab your tickets while they’re hot… or steaming anyway.

The Goon Show LIVE!, it’s the Best of British Comedy.

Mr. Vent ThomasIt is a thrill to present, for one night only, Mr. Vent Thomas who toured with Spike Milligan as his Stage Director in 1984/5; one New Zealand and two Australian tours. They were Spike’s ‘Final Farewell Tour’ and ‘Second Final Farewell Tour’.

Vent will be appearing as a very special guest on the opening night of The Goon Show LIVE!’s Yulefest Blue Mountains dinner and show, on Saturday 1st July 2017.

After the show, Vent will take the stage to remember some of his experiences of travelling and working with Spike. Vent says, “There are a ton of stories from those tours. Touring with Spike was of course the land of never a dull moment.”

Some of Vent’s stories include;

  • The time that Spike went walkabout before opening night in Canberra; a show that the Prime Minister was attending
  • Spike’s intolerance of journalists
  • The challenges of finding suitable accommodation for Spike
  • Why Spike had to be locked-up in the dressing rooms at the Theatre in Alice Springs

After a live interview, there will be a short Q&A.

To whet your appetite, here’s an ABC recording of Spike in his element when he played the Octagon Theatre at the University of WA in 1984. (Apologies for the quality, but well worth the time)

It’d be terrific to see you there… book here, or read more on the official website of The Goon Show LIVE!

Theatre is all about experience; if you want to experience some of the best that the Blue Mountains offers, go and see ‘Breaking Bread’ at the Wentworth Falls School of Arts.

Feeling especially thrilled to see that the amazingly talented Jade Alexcein Fuda,  one of the Entertainment Blue Mountains family, is in the cast.

Here’s the official blurb…
