Hamlette frollicking with a bunny and two spring chicks

Oh yes, it must be spring;, the blossom is filling the Blue Mountains air with delectable scents, the daffodils are brightly smiling at everyone and Theatresports® Blue Mountains is celebrating with a another show at the Hotel Gearin in Katoomba.

The seasonal silliness set for Thursday 15th September, at 8pm.

Featuring a cast of total loonies who will amaze and entertain you with their delightful impro skills, clever characters and queer quests – this show is a MUST.

Bookings and further information can be found here.

Last night (Friday Aug 26th 2011) we presented our first show at the Waldorf Leura Gardens Resort… and what a show it was!

Not really sure of how it was going to play out (yes, pun intended), our talented cast threw themselves on the mercy of a restaurant full of patrons who all had one message emblazoned on their heads – ‘entertain me’.

And entertain we did!

Featuring two teams, The Walnuts and She’s Apples (hey, we were at the Waldorf after all), the audience was treated to a high energy show which broke them down completely.

There were plenty of laughs, especially when something went wrong (as always happens when everything is totally unscripted).

It was show chock-full of wonderful scenes, which included the entire Harry Potter franchise compressed into a 1 minute rip-roaring re-hash and lessons in how to polish silver-ware.

Our cast took the audience on strange journeys into unknown (or at least unrecognisable) worlds, and we were all introduced to a whole world of weird and (mostly) wonderful characters.

Supported by Guy ‘Mr. Music;’ Saltis, and judged by the stunningly beautiful Janet Lynne Smith and the slightly less beautiful Aaron Wormald, we quite frankly blew up the house!

Photos and footage are on their way, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, put the dates of our next shows into your diary… Thursday 15th Sept, The Ham Stakes Show at the Hotel Gearin in Katoomba – and Fri 30th September, The Theatresports Show at the Waldorf Leura Gardens Resort.

What a spectacular show that was! Our Yule-fest show at the Hotel Gearin on July 21st 2011 was a terrific night of improvised magic.

We had three teams vying for the right to be noted as the winners, wooing our three guest judges with their on-stage antics. The teams were led by three icons of the Christmas; Santa, Scrooge and Rudolph. Each team was made up of three players, who all demonstrated to an incredibly loud audience exactly how good Theatresports® can be.

Our cast took the audience away on wonderful journeys into the unknown, and introduced delightful characters, all through the traditional impro games which have been the foundation of Theatresports® for decades.

In addition to the teams, we also presented a rogue guest player, the Road Runner, who was called upon by the entire cast throughout the show, to provide back-up during various scenes. Her quick wit and delightful presence was appreciated by the audience who warmly applauded her talent.

Speaking of audience, we had people from the local Blue Mountains community join us; along with visitors to the region from Sydney, Adelaide and as far away as Germany. None of the visitors had even heard of Theatresports®, and they’ve all indicated they’ll be checking out their local Theatresports® shows. More conversions… that’s what it’s all about!

The brandy sauce on the plum pudding was of course our very special guests, the Very small Choir, who opened the show and brought us back from interval with some naughty little ditties. The audience went wild, encores were given and the players became a little worried that they’d been upstaged.

It was a wonderful show, all thanks to our hosts, the Hotel Gearin in Katoomba. A delicious Christmas feast was laid on by the chef, and the judging by the merry-ness evident through the night, there was probably a glass or two lifted as well.

The highlight of the show, was the judges favourite scene; when Santa was seen sucking the thumb of a wayward parent… the scene brought the house down when it was replayed in slow-motion at the end of the night.

In the end, Rudolph’s team one; what clever little deers!

Santa v. Scrooge
Hotel Gearin, Katoomba

Santa’s troupe of naughty elves are getting very over-excited about the upcoming Yulefest Theatresports® show, which is happening on Thursday 21st July at the Hotel Gearin in Katoomba.

They’ve been getting under the big man’s feet, creating all sorts of strife at the the toy-shop.

In an unexpected development, Santa called in the help of his trusty friend Rudolf to whip those pesky elves into shape. Unfortunately this has backfired, and Rudolph was last seen tied up with packing tape and singing “Jingle Bells, Batman Smells…” while under the influence of some potent egg-nog.

Santa is in training with his team of elves, ahead of their head-to-head challenge against the greatest threat Christmas cheer has ever faced… Scrooge.

Sources close to the ‘Humbug Horror’ state that old-man Scrooge has entered into an uneasy alliance with the Three Ghosts is his plot to over-throw Santa. His ultimate aim is apparently to eliminate Santa’s hold on the toy-manufacturing market, which according to some analysts, would result in global turmoil as retailers are forced to relinquish shelf-space, replacing toys with lumps of dirty coal. As various counties work towards reducing carbon emissions, such an eventuality is tipped to increase the carbon price tenfold.

To witness this clash between Santa and Scrooge, and enjoy a sumptuous Christmas Roast followed by a traditional plum pudding, book your tickets now.

The chef at the Gearin Hotel has just unveiled a delightfully delicious Christmas feast for your enjoyment at our Christmas in July Yulefest show on July 21st.
