Only two tickets left for this Saturday night’s (7th July) dinner and show…
Last night’s dinner and show at the Palais Royale was an absolutely brilliant night.
The audience was soo responsive; laughing all the way.
More photos of the night will be posted soon, but to keep you going, we thought you’d enjoy this Goons Salute.
Well, last week’s opening night was nothing short of HUGE!
It was a full house… and the reviews from people who attended are very flattering indeed. Here are some reviews which some of out audience were lovely enough to write on our Facebook Page.
“Anyone who loves iconic British comedy will truly appreciate this show. Perfect setting for a perfect representation of the British comic trio. Fabulous.”
Then Randa sent,
“Fantastic show! Great fun and lots of laughs, loved it.”
Perhaps our favourite message was this one from Mandy,
“How I wish we had know about this wonderful winter event before! We attended first night of new 2018 show, in its new venue and had many a hearty laugh/groan as puns and verbal repartee flew about.
Dinner and show are a must for us from now on!”
Not that we’re into blowing our trumpet… well not too hard… but the opening night of The Goon Show LIVE! on Saturday 23rd June is SOLD OUT! There are still good tickets available for the rest of our dinner and show dates, so if you’re hoping to experience the Best British Belly Laugh Down Under, you better get into gear… food, British Comedy, great times – perfect!

With the July school holidays fast approaching, we’re continuing our tradition of shows especially for the little ones aged 2-8. This time we’re presenting The Marvellous Sock Machine at the wonderful Pigeon Lane at ONE88. It’s a story of sock buddies, Spud and Gromit, who are inundated with washing soooo many socks – and they’re always losing them! What are they to do? An interactive show for kids, The Marvellous Sock Machine is a delightful 50-minute show featuring songs, loads of fun and plenty of Silly Sock Sensations! It is an interactive theatrical experience for children aged 2 – 8. Read more..
Stepping out of Katoomba and rolling down the hill to Penrith, we’re again staging The Goon Show LIVE! at a special Fathers’ Day weekend at the Penrith Gaels Cultural and Sporting Association, presenting another 3 original cult episodes; an evening show on Saturday 1st September, and an afternoon matinée on Fathers’ Day Sunday 2nd.
October is going to be very special indeed. We’re lucky enough to be hosting the talented Chrissie Shaw as she revisits her show Bijou – a cabaret of Secrets and Seduction, accompanied on piano by Alan Hicks. Bijou is a cabaret, yet it is also a play in disguise. It tells the story of a woman whose life is defined by wars. Theatre goers and lovers of cabaret alike will love Bijou, as will aficionados of fine music who will be treated to Poulenc, Saint-Saens, Debussy, Erik Satie, Jean Lenoir, Friedrich Hollander, Kurt Weill, Emil Jacques-Dalcroze etc. Those familiar with, or indeed studying French language, culture and history, literature, music etc. will particularly enjoy Bijou. Details and bookings.
We have more theatre and other live performance events on the way, which we will announce as dates and details are confirmed. In the meantime, be sure to keep an eye on our events pages on our website here or on Facebook.
Steve Grieve and The Mourners’ gig at Katoomba’s Palais Royale Hotel is not far away.
To get you into the groove, here’s the video clip for their track ‘Neighbours’.
Steve says about it….
“We wrote this tune many moons ago having grown up in Canberra, incensed by the implied call to action of the local constabulary’s “Neighbourhood Watch” community outreach program. Yes, pot, paranoia, persecution and police – a perfect recipe for a song, not to mention irresistibly alliterative. The idea of the citizenry collectively peering through their curtains and dobbing in their friends and family also segued nicely with a certain contrarian libertarian urge – surely, we should be allowed to do whatever we like in the privacy of our own home? Or should we? This scandalously rebellious sentiment arose against a background which featured many less than savoury youthful encounters with the law, too numerous and scandalous to mention here, suffice to say that they included much real and threatened confiscation of loud and at times excessively noisy music making apparatus, guitars, amps drums etc. at a string of mostly enjoyable, only occasionally memorable rehearsals, parties and unofficial house ‘concerts’.”

To whet your appetite and If you are into blues rock music with strange animation, you might like this video clip on Facebook for the title track on their new album. ‘Caterpillar Maze’. You can view it on Facebook too.
This is what Steve says about what’s behind the track…
Lost in a Caterpillar Maze– Caterpillar Maze, metamorphosis. Rock’n roll is a strange journey. There are times when you are so far down the rabbit hole you no longer know who you are and why you are there. The questions from friends and family add to this dilemma, they have genuine concerns about your motives, particularly when you haven’t progressed or evolved in a similar fashion to themselves. “What do you want out of it” is a tricky question when you are in deep, determined and committed, always writing and developing ideas. The fruits of this hard work may only manifest in a great performance, a fleeting moment, nothing solid or tangible has appeared for them to hold or measure. You may have a great recording but no industry support. Some people need you to have both, to assure them that what they are hearing, and what you are doing with your life is valid. The independent artist, driven and determined, can look the fool arriving at the sharp dressed, safe suburban barbecue in their beaten up old car, attired in their bohemian garb. Meanwhile there are a host of fascinating characters down the rabbit hole with you – fellow artists, delusional madmen and women, potent crafty Svengalis and sly grifters. They make you a promise, they may see a dollar in you, or they may be blinded by your ‘talent’. Some have no idea, not a musical bone in their body, but some have the gift, the magical Midas touch. It’s all timing, right place right time, right people, and a grand illusionary gate can mysteriously open and bestow worldwide success, apparently even on mediocrity. It always gets back to your passion, through the highs and lows the one constant is your love of writing and creating, happily lost in a Caterpillar Maze.
