yule17-stickytix-sqOur British Comedy Yulefest Dinner and Show is just around the corner… it opens this Saturday 1st July at the Metropole Katoomba, and runs throughout the month.

This is our 6th Yulefest season, for some reason they keep on asking us back!

Opening night on the 1st has only a handful of tickets left – and there aren’t many more available for rest of the dates – so if you are part of a British Comedy fan-club, best grab the rest of the mob and book those tickets.

As a very special treat for Yulefest Blue Mountains 2017, Goon Show fans are to be entertained by the episode ‘Christmas Crackers‘ which was written by Spike Milligan for inclusion in BBC Radio’s Christmas Day broadcast of 1953.

The casts of several then current comedy series performed short sketches on the subject of Christmas in general and Christmas Crackers in particular.

This sketch performed by the Goons was recorded at the same time as The Giant Bombardon (series 4, ep. 13), on Sunday 20 December of that year.

As far as it can be ascertained, this Goons sketch was never rebroadcast and are no known recordings of it.

The original script still exists, and is part of the Sir. Elton John Collection. Elton John bought the original scripts at auction in 1981 for £14,000. With Sir Elton’s permission, The Goon Show Preservation Society was able to scan this important Goons document.

Vent Thomas, stage director for Spike Milligan 1984/85

Opening night for our night of British Comedy dinner and show for Yulefest Blue Mountains, is sooo close. It’s on this Saturday 1st July at the Metropole Katoomba.

As a special treat for those who book for the first night, we are thrilled to present Mr. Vent Thomas who toured with Spike Milligan as his Stage Director in 1984/5; one New Zealand and two Australian tours. They were Spike’s ‘Final Farewell Tour’ and ‘Second Final Farewell Tour’.

There are only 9 tickets left for that particular night, and bookings for the other July shows are very close behind… so get a group of British Comedy fans together and book those tickets.

After the show, Vent will take the stage to remember some of his experiences of travelling and working with Spike. Vent says, “There are a ton of stories from those tours. Touring with Spike was of course the land of never a dull moment.”

Some of Vent’s stories include;

  • The time that Spike went walkabout before opening night in Canberra; a show that the Prime Minister was attending
  • Spike’s intolerance of journalists
  • The challenges of finding suitable accommodation for Spike
  • Why Spike had to be locked-up in the dressing rooms at the Theatre in Alice Springs

After a live interview, there will be a short Q&A.

To whet your appetite, here’s an ABC recording of Spike in his element when he played the Octagon Theatre at the University of WA in 1984. (Apologies for the quality, but well worth the time)

a-bucket-of-GoonsThis Saturday 1st July marks the first show of our Yulefest Blue Mountains dinner and show.

If you’re into British Comedy, then get a group together and get your tickets booked now. Opening night (Sat 1st July) only has 9 tickets left – and all the other dates are close behind.

This year marks our 6th, yes SIXTH Yulefest season – for some reason they keep on asking us to come back!

After the super WinterMagic Festival in Katoomba yesterday, the whole region is now pumped up for the biggest season on the Blue Mountains calendar – Yulefest, our very own Winter Christmas-in-July.

This year, as part of our show, we’re bringing back the Bucket of GOON.

What happens is that we ask an audience member to draw a mystery Goon Show episode out of a bucket for the boys to perform.

Once the lads get over the initial leg-trembles, they have only 5 minutes to scramble – sort out their scripts and load-up the sound effects.

We first gave this a whirl in 2015 at a season of shows we played in Sydney… it worked brilliantly, and the added adrenaline spiced up the show for cast and audience alike.

Tickets have been selling extremely well this year, so get in on the fun and book now. We’d love to see you there.

What are you waiting for?

The boys of The Goon Show LIVE! have been working hard (if you can describe what they actually do as ‘working’), bringing the best of British Comedy to the stage.

After successful tours to the NSW Central Coast and Sydney throughout 2016, they are returning to where the LIVE! show all began… Katoomba, in the stunning Blue Mountains.

Robin (Spike Milligan) Queree of The Goon Show LIVE! forgot his linesThis here is Robin Queree (a.k.a. Spike Milligan), in a recent show; he’s just realised that it’s his line.

Although they all hold their scripts in-hand, they still manage to lose their place at times. With luck, he’ll remember to bring his script to our show at Hotel Blue on December 17th.

Last weekend, we held two shows… the first on Saturday night was a dinner and show, and then on Sunday we have a special Afternoon Tea. My goodness, the fans just keep on coming.

Along with all our regulars, we seem to be finding more and more new fans. On Saturday, Annette and Joe gave us this wonderful video review…

There is only one more Yulefest Blue Mountains Dinner and Show left, on Saturday 30th July, so book your tickets before we run away.

Audiences cheer for The Goon Show LIVE!Last Saturday was a BLAST! It was a show like no other… one table in particular was very much involved with the show, quoting lines back at the actors, and even chorusing Eccles’ famous line “He’s fallen in the water” every time there was the merest hint of a splash.

There was one wonderful lady, who wants to remain anonymous, who sent us this wonderful note a couple of days later…

I am so glad that I discovered The Goon Show three years ago. This will be my fifth one and one of the best. I was struck from the beginning at how close the actors have got to the originals, and if I was to close my eyes, I would think I was 16 again and listening to the show on the radio. Thanks guys. They say laughter keeps you younger.and you have certainly taken at least five years off my age with the latest helping.

Such flattery… thank you, and we hope to see you at many more of our shows in the future.
